In a letter to all Secretary Generals, Anne Nderitu, the Registrar of Political Parties, said all the registered parties are required to submit the party lists by June 11, 2022, for certification.

The parties are required to submit 98 party lists to the Commission.

Each of the parties is required to nominate 12 people for the position of MP in the National Assembly and 16 women for the Senate. The Senate list must also include two youths and two Persons Living with Disability, with the registrar insisting on gender balance.

The parties are also expected to submit 47 Lists for the County Assembly (Marginalized Group) Party List and 47 Lists for the County Assembly (Gender) Party List.

“Political Parties are guided to submit the party lists to ORPP on or before 11th June, 2022,” Nderitu said in a letter dated June 6, 2022.

She added: “The party lists shall be submitted in the prescribed form 24B under Regulation 54 (2) of the Elections (Party Primaries and Party Lists) Regulations, 2017.”

This comes as parties rush to meet several deadlines ahead of the August 9 General Election.

Yesterday, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) completed the exercise of clearing presidential candidates ahead of the polls.

The electoral body cleared four and rejected 13 others for failing to meet various requirements.

Those cleared include Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition party candidate Raila Odinga and his arch-rival William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

The other two who got the green light from IEBC to vie are Roots Party candidate Prof George Wajackoyah and his Agano counterpart David Mwaure Waihiga.

“The candidates met the requisite constitutional and statutory requirement, and were therefore successful in their bid to contest,” Chebukati said.

The vetting of aspirants seeking other positions is ongoing.
