The controversy over the academic qualification of Nairobi gubernatorial seat aspirant Johnson Sakaja has taken a new twist after it emerged that he is yet to graduate from the Univerity of Nairobi (UoN).
Sakaja, who is the incumbent Nairobi senator, has often claimed that he graduated from the luxurious Nairobi-based institution with a degree in Actuarial Science.
However, UoN’s communications director John Orindi said that the lawmaker is still their student and has not completed the course in which he enrolled in 2003 on a module two programme.
“It is true Sakaja was admitted to the university and was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, studied from First Year up to Fourth Year, but is yet to graduate,” Orindi told Nation.
In the investigations being carried out by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives, it was established that Sakaja’s transcripts were incomplete.
As required by the law that anybody eyeing the county governor position must be a holder of a degree from a recognised university, the super senator on June 6, presented a degree from a Ugandan university to the electoral commission for clearance. Sajaka’s papers indicated he studied at Team University in Uganda where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management. The documents indicated he graduated on October 21, 2016.
